AMERICUS – The South Georgia Technical College Foundation awarded Commercial Truck Driving student, Sanchez Graham, Jr. of Macon, with a $500 Client First Insurance Solutions scholarship recently. Jody Wade from Client First Insurance Solutions was on hand to comment.

Client First Insurance Solutions awarded five Commercial Truck Driving Scholarships earlier this year through the SGTC Foundation. Graham was the third scholarship recipient. Julissa Gutierrez and Richard T. Simpson received scholarships in the past. This scholarship is offered to South Georgia Technical College Commercial Truck Driving students who wish to become owner/operators.

Sanchez Graham, Jr. said: “I really appreciate these courses. I have tried other things but I feel that this program has given me a second chance. My goal in signing up for this program was to give myself and my family a chance to succeed.

“I have enjoyed my time here at South Georgia Technical College. My teachers have been exceptional. I would encourage others looking for a good short-term job to consider applying to the Commercial Truck Driving program at South Georgia Tech. I think you will be glad you did,” added Graham, who is thinking of going back to enroll in the Diesel Technology program so that one day he will be able to repair and maintain his car.

“We are very grateful to Client First Insurance Solutions for their willingness to partner with South Georgia Technical College through their scholarship support for this critical project,” said SGTC President Dr. John Watford. “Our country needs more drivers and we thank you for helping ‘do-it-all’ students to provide the goods and services our communities need.”

Jody Wade of Client First Solutions thanked Dr. Watford and SGTC Vice President of Institutional Advancement and SGTC Foundation Executive Director Su Ann Bird for the opportunity. “We are happy to partner with South Georgia Technical College and the SGTC Foundation for this CDL course. We recognize that truck drivers are important workers and are responsible for delivering goods to our communities. This is our way of showing appreciation to those who choose to participate in this work,” said Wade.

The main objective of Client First Insurance Solutions is to meet the needs of its valued customers and to prepare insurance solutions for the things that matter most. They offer auto, home, commercial, life insurance and more. They serve clients in Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida.

Dr. Watford said that “statistics show that there is currently a shortage of drivers and it is predicted that this will increase in the next few years.” Almost every service you see is advertising for licensed drivers. South Georgia Technical College is working to achieve this by expanding its Commercial Truck Driving training program and this course is a great help. “

Commercial Truck Driving is one of the Governor’s High Demand Career fields eligible for additional funding through the Hope Career Grant program. Eligible individuals receive up to $1000 in cash for enrolling in the CDL program.

The Commercial Truck Driving program at South Georgia Technical College is an eight-week program and can be completed in afternoon or evening classes.
